Hi there SimPilot -
Welcome to the forum. Here is my attempt to answer your queries.
1) From what I know, flying MS FlightSim is quite different from RC Sims. The main reason behind this is that,
in an RC sim you are (pretty much) always controlling the aircraft from outside the aircraft,
while on the Sim for a regular aircraft, you are always controlling it from the inside (looking always in the forward direction). In the MS Flight Sim, you are don't typically have to deal with aircraft coming towards you ("nose-in"), and the aileron and rudder controls are reversed ! It is this reversing of controls that makes RC flight so much more interesting
It is interesting to see pilots (who fly commericial jets to earn a living

) struggle when they try to fly RC aircraft for the first time. So the less fortunate ones like us who have only got MS Flight Sim, would really struggle !
In short;
yes, you need to get an RC specific sim.
2) This question is hard to answer. The best I have been able to gather from official sources, ala the Qatar Scientif Club (QSC), is that you need to go to the Al-Khor field to do any kind of flying. That is, after you have registered with the aviation club of the QSC.
Having said that, I have also been told that authorities typically turn a blind eye on flying smaller aircraft, especially small electric ones, at any large open areas away from people. I have seen people fly these small electric aircraft even at the big park opposite to the HobbyLand RC shop.
Others are known to fly nitro-powered aircraft (upto size 50) at deserted areas between Wakrah and Mesaieed.
Once again, welcome to RC (Qatar!).
Regards,
Anwar.
PS: The post has been moved out to a separate topic/thread, since it was not entirely about the Al-Khor airfield.
